The butcher counter at the Rattan Hypermarket always seemed to have a line of people waiting. To avoid having to wait, we would choose the pre-packaged meats instead. The cuts of fresh meat that were normally available included ground beef and thin beef steaks. We hardly ever saw chicken in the pre-packaged section except for on one visit. I didn't bother to ask what "pescuezo" meant and just assumed that these packages included a variety of chicken pieces. When we got home, I realized that they were just chicken necks meant for making soup.

At the time of our visit, the "official" exchange rate was about 2,150 Bolivares per $1.00 US. (Not the new Bolivares Fuertes.)
I included pictures of all our receipts from the Rattan Hypermarket during our month long stay on Isla Margarita to help you get an idea of the food costs. You'll recognize some of the brand names on the receipts and for the rest you may need a Spanish translator.
